Artea was the protector of the village Eserikto, and suffice to say that his life pretty much revolved around his little elvin home, which was devoid of any humans. Milka, a small elf child and daughter of Karyn, gets involved with the humans and soon Maxim and his team of warriors, looking to destroy the Sinstrals, stumbled upon the elf girl (who they saved from the monsters of the Mountain of No Return). When Artea shows up to bring the elf girl home again, Maxim wants to go to his village. Artea refuses to bring them there, for no humans are allowed, but after being convinced that it's for the better good Artea warps them to his village. As soon as they appear in Eserikto, however, the elves tell Artea that Karyn, a good friend of Artea's and protector of the Divine Shrine, has been kidnapped by Amon in order to gain the power inside the shrine.
Artea and Maxim team up (since Maxim can't enter the shrine without an elf) and go after the Sinstral and Karyn. Once they get there they find Karyn battling with Amon. Amon tries to get the power of the Divine Shrine, but Karyn refuses to let him and soon chases him away with her power. However, the power she had let loose was everything inside of her, which weakens her considerably. Artea runs to her side, but it's too late and Karyn dies in his arms, making him promise to look after Milka. Maxim persuades Artea to come with him and his team to fight the Sinstrals and to make sure Karyn's death was not in vain. So Artea goes with the humans.
Their journey finally leads to the Sinstrals' floating island and to the Sinstrals' defeat. But not without a price. Artea's eye is wounded (which later causes him to go blind in both eyes) and Selan, Maxim's wife, is injured in the fight with the Sinstrals. She lays dying before the bridge that leads to the exit. Maxim goes back for his wife, but the bridge breaks, separating them from Artea, Guy and the exit. Artea refuses to leave them there to die, for in their time together they had all become close friends. The elf tries to warp them out, but since they are all separated Artea can't warp out without leaving Maxim and Selan behind. Maxim tells Artea to save himself and Guy, or else they would die with them. Right before Artea warps himself and Guy out of the Sinstrals' fortress, he promises Maxim that he will not rest until the world knows about his and his wife's sacrifice. Artea and Guy leave.
99 years later, Artea and Milka are now in Elfrea, located in Westland. Hero, a descendant of Maxim, and his band of warriors are traveling to once again defeat the Sinstrals. They find Elfrea with the help of their elf friend, Jerin, and Artea, who the late Guy told them to seek out for help. Artea meets with Hero and his friends, but because he is now blind due to the battle 99 years ago, he can be of no help to Hero. But he tells them how to defeat the Sinstrals and where to find Duel Blade, the legendary sword. Before Hero leaves, Artea gives the half-elf Jerin his bow that he used many years ago.
