Messages in the Sky
I'm very into Astrology. I've been a student of it for ten years now, and I find it to be a very organized and precise way of figuring out and explaining personality traits. Hopefully in reading this, you'll gain a different insight on Dekar's character and learn a little about Astrology at the same time. For the sake of simplicity, I'll deal with two aspects here, the Sun sign and the Moon sign. Some setup: » The Sun sign, sometimes incorrectly called the "star sign," is the core of one's personality. It is the ego, the base, the foundation of character, and the main force behind one's actions and attitudes. To figure out your Sun sign, all you need is your date of birth (though for folks born on cusps, you may want to consult a professional Astrologer or online resource to see exactly where your Sun is positioned). » The Moon sign is just the opposite. It's the other, unseen half of a personality. It represents hidden drives and desires. Where the Sun is masculine, the Moon is feminine: It governs our instincts, impressions, and response to children. One thing I've learned from experience is that the Moon sign never shows its true colors alone. Its aspects always appear in conjunction with the Sun sign. Simple enough, right? Now Dekar sadly didn't get an official birthdate, but going off his basic personality traits, we can come up with a slice of the year when it would most likely be. From the start, we see that Dekar is a very open, positive character. There's no darkness to him or any angsty skeletons in his closet. He's passionate, egotistical, proud, and an eternal optimist. He acts without thinking. He's courageous and quick to throw himself into a battle. He seems to view himself as a superhero of sorts; he tends to overestimate his strengths. These are the traits of Aries, the Ram, the first sign of the Zodiac. Like any Aries, Dekar likes to take the lead. He likes to go first. Take the scene in Narcysus, after the flute plays and the girls are kidnapped. "We've got to do something to save them! I'm off!" In the heat of their passions, Aries folks tend to forget about everyone else. They also tend to be self-centered, though this is almost always inoffensive. Aries are humorous creatures, which explains Dekar's penchant for making us laugh. The stupidity? Any sign can be stupid; it's the way they express it that concerns us here. In Dekar's case, he's all action and almost no thought. That's a typical Aries fault. Aries births are spring births, taking place from March 21 to April 19 approximately. Like the other spring signs, Taurus and Gemini, Aries lack the ability to learn from their mistakes. Often they'll find themselves in the same troubles over and over again, before it dawns on them that they need to change. Some Aries stats:
In the natural chart, Aries rules the first house, which concerns personality and appearance. An Aries Sun sums Dekar up pretty well, but there are some blanks that it doesn't fill in. For instance, Aries doesn't explain his sensitivity to others or his fixity of purpose (Rams tend to lose interest quickly). There's also an underlying suaveness to his nature that his Sun doesn't normally have. Yet at the same time, Dekar seems to be the same person inside and out. That's where his Leo Moon kicks in. Like Aries, Leo is a Fire sign, so the inner Dekar is just as enthusiastic and cheery as the outer Dekar, and just as proud. But Leos notice others more than Aries does, and are famous in the Zodiac for being big-hearted. As a fixed sign, Leo helps Dekar stay focused on his mission, and gives him a slight dramatic flair. On the negative side, however, it tends to fuel his ego even more. For the more Astrologically experienced, Aries and Leo trine each other — that is, they're of the same element and complement each other. People whose Sun and Moon signs are trine have virtually no discrepancies between their needs and wants (it is also believed by some Astrologers that the parents of these folks had an excellent relationship; their early lives were relatively enjoyable). The trine is a lucky aspect; however, too many trines in a natal chart can indicate a lazy person, a person who shuns challenges, or a person for whom life comes too easy. Want to know more about Astrology? Here are some of my favorite websites: » Astro Dienst: a great place for free charts of all kinds » Astrology on the Web: a very in-depth resource » Cafe Astrology: a good place to start learning; also offers free charts To a lesser extent, I recommend Jeff Prince's birth chart, which comes with a sample personality report, in .pdf format. Tarot.Com's Astrology section offers many different services, some free and some not; either way, it's another handy resource for beginners. |
